Abstract:
The National Archives of Estonia in collaboration with the Estonian Film Institute will launch a new video-on-demand platform ARKAADER for heritage films, newsreels and other culturally significant audiovisual material in autumn 2022. Even as VOD services are growing at an unprecedented speed and have completely transformed the film and media field in recent years, access and visibility remain a key challenge for film heritage. The aim of the streaming platform is twofold - in addition to attracting general audiences and offering them a convenient environment to engage with archival materials, the target audience also comprises of teachers and students who will have a separate section and functionality on the platform for educational purposes.

In this presentation we would like to give a brief overview of why it was created and how we aim to bring film heritage closer to audiences.
