Safe and reusable: ideals versus real life
The following topics are offered as starting points:
• preservation methods for the analogue material;
• best formats for digitising, as well as digital short and long time storage;
• provision of access to the material – either analogue or digital;
• dealing with born digital material;
• view of the user compared to that of the archivist.
The Board of BAAC had its first meeting of 2014 on March 6, in the city of Riga, Latvia.
Two BAAC members – Juozas Markauskas and Zane Grosa - took part in a 2 day meeting in London at the British Library, representing their organisations – Dizi (Lithuania) and the National Library of Latvia. This meeting "kicked off" a new European project "Europeana Sounds", with about 50 people representing 24 partners from across Europe.

For the BAAC board, the conference started already the evening before the actual conference, with a meeting on premises of the Finnish Jazz & Pop Archive.
BAAC was invited to present its position in session Public Awareness on Audiovisual Art Works Conservationâ€œ at the International Conference "ExCHange for a challenge" in higher education for restoration, conservation and risk management of works of art, in Kocaeli (Turkey) 1-3 March 2012.
At its annual meeting in Tallinn on October 6, 2011, BAAC has adopted the following statement.
The 42nd IASA conference was held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and its theme concerned digital decision making in sound and audiovisual collections.
After nearly three years of preparation and development, the European Film Gateway EFG http://www.europeanfilmgateway.eu is now online. The Internet portal to the digital collections of European film archives and cinema offers free access to currently about 400,000 digital videos, photos, film posters and text materials. By September, the number of digital items will increase to 600,000 from 16 film archives.

TORONTO, ONTARIO - Two historically significant films, believed to be the first ever colour footage shot in Estonia in 1939, have been discovered in Canada by documentary filmmaker Marcus Kolga.
The formal title of the conference was: "Back to analogue: preserving audiovisual resources for digitalisation and posterity ". The programme committee addressed the level of development and progress in the field of digitalisation of audiovisual archives in the Baltic countries.

Annual IASA conference 2009 was held in Athens, Greece. BAAC report was presented at the General assembly.
BAAC was taking a part in the professional meeting organized by Latvian National Commission for UNESCO at Ministry of Foreign affairs of the republic of Latvia, 31 August in Riga.
The professional BAAC Broadcasters working group visit and meeting to SRF was organized by the BAAC with the aim of learning more about the implemented digitization activities and policies within the institution.

It has developed into a tradition that the papers and documents presented at a BAAC event you find at the website also is completed by a more personal reflection on the programme, the venue and the event as a whole by a delegate.
Lithuanian working group meets secretary of the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania on occasion of UNESCO world day of audiovisual heritage.
Since this year Lithuanian Central State Archive has been directly involved in the pilot action MIDAS Moving Image Database for Access and Re-use of European film collections.
The BAAC board meeting, this time kindly hosted by the Latvian Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art, was of course, on this occasion, very much dedicated to finalizing the arrangements for the upcoming BAAC annual conference this year in Estonian Tartu September 24-27.

At the end of 2007 Estonian Public Broadcasting awarded Reet Harkmaa for a longtime professional service in the Estonian Television news archives.
It seems to be a human instinct all the way, since we lived in caves, to collect and organize the collections. In addition, the human race through history always seems to be eager to help the young generation to understand and predict the future, by teaching them the history of the past.
