Sydney-sider John Spence was a teacher and editor before he turned to archiving. After receiving a Graduate Diploma in Archives Administration he joined the Radio Archives of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 1985. John worked as a researcher and cataloguer before becoming manager of the unit. Since the amalgamation of the ABC’s radio and television archives in 2002 John has taken on the role of senior radio researcher. In true IASA fashion he has become multi-media and regularly does research for ABC TV programs. He has done consultancies with All India Radio and Papua New Guinea’s NBC. John is a former IASA Vice-President and ASRA Board member. He is presently on the planning committee for the 2008 IASA Conference in his hometown of Sydney.
